The South London & Kent Pool Allinace (or SLKPA) is an English 8 ball pool league for teams in the SE London and NW Kent area of 5 or more members. The league is contested on Thursday evenings and matches consist of 15 frames of "World Rules" pool, commencing at 8pm. Our league caters for pool players of all standards/creeds/age/sexes and has multi divisions. The SLKPA is affilliated to Greater London County Pool Association, which is under the umbrella of the English Pool Association. We have singles and pairs competitions regularly, an Interleague team, as well as a host of other facilities to help you enjoy your pool, and all these are available to our registered players. Our aim is to be the number one pool league in this area.
The SLKPA welcomes any new players or teams who wish to participate. Friendlies can be arranged for any team wishing to learn "World Rules", or who would like to sample the league to see if it appeals. For more information contact the League Secretary.

Welcome to the new teams that have joined the SLKPA for the Summer 2008 season. We hope you enjoy your pool in our league.
The new teams are: Leather Bottle, Coach & Horses, Railway Club Boys, Great Harry, Billet Busters, Who'd A Thought It, Gallies, Woodman, Pheasant and Mitre.
Any team that would like to offer it's home venue as a host for league meeting should let a member of the committee know. The committee will follow this request up and if the venue is suitable, a future meeting can be held there.
Can existing teams please be lenient with the rules regarding the new teams. Learning world rules can be a little bit alien for some players and in the early matches of the summer season, some players may not be aware that they need to nominate, ask for total and foul snookers etc. Experienced teams/players should advise and encourage the newer teams in order for them to grasp the rules. The league understand that it's a competitive match and players will be going flat out to win. But please remember we all had to learn these rules at some point, so cast your mind back to when you were in the new teams' position. A little help will go a long way.
Taking the SLKPA forward into the Summer 2008 and beyond.
From 2008, the registration fee will include team registration and a set amount of players. So players will not be required to pay the additional £2 to register, this will all be included in the £50/40 registration fee. This will make it cheaper for all teams to enroll. A limit will be set on how many players each team may register, although players can be added and withdrawn from squads, by letting the League Secretary know 24 hours before matchdays.
The league have introduced a player registration number unique to each player. Each team will be distributed the registration numbers for their team and these should be included on the match result sheets. A player without a number should not take part in league/cup matches. This means this teams must supply an email contact address for at least one member so that teams can be notified of their players registration numbers, and any updates that occur to their squad throughout the season. Failure to supply an email address for a team will incur a £5 registration penalty which will be used to offset the cost of stationary and postage of mail to a team's home address.
The league have two playing formats.
(i) The winter season will remain at a point a frame with a win bonus, promotion and relegation between the divisions. This will always remain the major season and take preference over the summer season.
(ii) The league will use the summer season to experiment with new ideas. With this in mind, the league have introduced a new concept in the playing format. Instead of a point per frame and a win bonus, there will be 1 point awarded per set won. So matches will still consist of 15 frames, but split up into 3 sets of 5 with a maximum of 3 points available on the night and a minimum of 0. All 15 frames will be played for frame difference purposes, and this will be used should teams remain level on points. Effectively there will be 3 mini matches within 1 total match. Hopefully this will provide more competitive matches, even if teams are much stronger/weaker than their opponents, as every set brings a new challenge. The match score and additionally, the set score, will need to be texted in as usual to your divisional secretary following the match. Promotion and relegation will commence in the summer but run totally seperate from the winter. The divisions will take the form of a pyramid, with a top division and probably two parallel divisions beneath.
Steve Reed has voluntered to compile a ranking list for every player in the league depending on match results, with the benefits for the top players possibly receiving a trophy and byes in the first round of the individual knock out competitions. So please ensure your match result sheets are accurate, legible and submitted promplty. The pairs knock out will take the form of scotch pairs. Shots will be played alternatively rather than one player completing a whole visit. This should make pairs a lot more interactive, with the emphasis on both players rather than relying on one player of the pair playing well.
These are the committees plans to take this league forward and create stimulating pool. Our aim is to be innovative, different, and offer pool players more than just the usual fare. Please post any comments you have on our forum, the committee would love to hear your views.
GENERAL
Reminder that captains of both teams in a match should text in the result to your divisional secretary at the end of the match. Please include any player accolades for inclusion in the newspaper and media reports. Please text rather than phone as your divisional secretary may be involved in their own match. Please ensure the result is texted at the end of the match promptly, by both winning and losing captains. An example of the format is:
KINGS ARMS 3 - 0 PICKWICK & 11 - 4 or
KINGS ARMS 1 - 2 PICKWICK but KINGS ARMS won 8 - 7
If your team has a minor playing, please contact the venue before hand if you are playimg away to confirm they are allowed on the premises. The Beehive and Lee Green Constitutional Club do not permit under 18 year olds in the venue for pool matches.
It has come to the league's attention that on occasions coaching has taken place during league matches.
Players are reminded that coaching a player whislt he is playing a frame is illegal and can be punished with a standard foul. Players should make themselves familar with rule K 12 of the EPA "World Rules".
A reminder that to postpone league/cup matches, 48 hours notice is the minimum requirement. Matches should not be postponed just because certain players aren't available. Any matches cancelled without the required notice will result in the offenders forfeiting the match.
