INTERLEAGUE

2010 Finalists at Yarmouth
The SLKPA attended their first Interleague Finals at Vauxhall Holiday Park, Great Yarmouth and acquitted themselves very well for a first appearance. Despite going out at the first group stage SLKPA drew with the eventual group winners Clacton 9-9 and lost to Dawley B 11-7. A great experience for all the players that attended and valuable lessons learned for our next visit.

Short report of matchday 4 of the Interleague season 2010 by our Interleague Captain, Tony Frost
“With two Interleague dates until the close of the season, the SLKPA Interleague side were going into a long day at JFK’s Peckham having to play four fixtures without a break. With three of the four matches looking tough and one being un-predictable, it could have been a bad day at the office.
However, after much interest being shown in the Interleague side, we started and finished the day with the biggest turn-out of Interleague players since the first entry of an SLKPA Interleague Team
We had 16 Players, three of which had signed up on the day, and with four games (eight sets) to play, this was a very useful to give the Captain some options!
Match 1 Vs Waterloo 2 – The first set got off to a good start, going 3-1 up before finishing 5-4 to our opponents. The 2nd set didn't go as well and we lost 7-2 in frames, so overall lost 12-6.
Match 2 - Frank Smith - Next we were up against Frank Smith. Knowing all of their players from the SLKPA, we were expecting a hard fought close match. They were two players light in the first set but sill managed to take 3 frames from us, first set finishing 6-3 in our favour. In the 2nd set FS were only one player light. We lost the first frame in this set, but then to all of our delights we took the next 8 frames, therefore finishing 14-4 and gaining the bonus point!
Match 3 - London Angels - hoping to get a good result here and most importantly pick up a bonus point, this was an important game. However it was also an opportunity to involve newer players and those that may have needed this as a confidence boost. This was a risk that paid off for us, taking the first set 7-2, and not dropping a single frame in the 2nd set. This was a much improved result showing our growth and experience gained since the meet between us earlier in the season. No dis-respect to the Angels who are a determined team and always put up a fight! Final score 16-2 to SLKPA and the valuable bonus point was gained.
Match 4 - Waterloo 1 - before this game kicked off, this was the one match where we were probably expected to lose and not take anything away from, maybe apart from some valuable lessons in pool. Waterloo had not dropped a point and had picked up 5 bonus points at this stage. After the first set this was looking true to form and we found ourselves 7-2 down. However, we weren't interested in the way things were meant to be, and started clawing our way back into the game. We won the first three games before losing the next two which then saw the pressure on us as we had to win the remaining 4 games to take the match to a draw. Well three frames later after Paul Saxton finished his game in front, we see Andre Cox playing the last game against John F Kelly, which Andre finished and we found ourself in an un-expected but great situation of drawing with the division leaders! So the Captain Tony Frost looked upon his players for form, experience and confidence in this situation and chose Andre Cox who helped us achieve this position, Sean O'Connor although new to our squad had won 5/5 on the day, and Paul Gafa who was playing well and had the experience that we needed. Unfortunately, Jack Pople did the business against Andre, and with Joe Prince breaking and dishing against a bemused Sean, it left the play-off decided whilst Paul was working out his plan of attack and having to put his cue away mid-frame. Game over SLKPA had a losing draw, 9-9 in frames with Waterloo taking 2 to our 1 points. Not bad considering we are the first team to even take a point off of the leaders this season!.
So overall a good day for us and this has taken us into 3rd position in the league. Next fixture in August see's a must-win fixture against Battersea, then taking on the Juniors looking for another bonus point before playing Waterloo 2 again and hoping to re-write the form book.
We are now very close to qualifying for Great Yarmouth, and as a Captain I am not taking anything for granted but am very proud of what we have achieved so far and am looking forward to the end of August. It would be great to qualify without having to get there through the back door!"
